Kuda Lari

from Songs of the Dragon by Akar Umbi

/

about

Minah's cold voice was recorded at Batorvilla Studio in 1997. After her unexpected death in 1999, Antares produced a new arrangement of this song - with the help of Salim Dastan, Xiong Lee, David Yee and other sessionists. Sounds live! Minah learned this song from her husband, a tribal chief, who learned it from his grandmother. In 1883 the British assigned young Cecil Ranking as revenue collector & magistrate to Kuala Kubu. He rode around on horseback but one day he fell off and his horse bolted. This song commemorates what the Orang Asli regard as a very funny incident.

lyrics

Lari, lari, kuda lari (Run, run, horsey run)
Belang, belang, kuda belang (Stripey, stripey horse)
Pahang, Pahang, pergi Pahang (Pahang, Pahang,
Horsey's run to Pahang)
Lari, lari, mana cari (Run, run, where has horsey gone?)
Hilang, hilang, sudah hilang (Gone, gone, horsey has done a run)

Guano Breath Malaysia

My output mostly dates back to the 1980s and has been heard by a mere handful. This isn't what I'm into now but at least I'm not too embarrassed about it.

Collaborations with others & freestyle choreographic works form an integral part of my archive.

I enjoy being the world's least ambitious musician.
