Bukit Secocol / Hutan Manao / Sungai Makao

from Songs of the Dragon by Akar Umbi

/

about

AKAR UMBI ("tap root") is a collaboration between Minah Angong - a celebrated ceremonial singer of the indigenous Malaysian rainforest Temuan tribe - and some well-known musicians led by Antares and Rafique Rashid. Minah died on 21 September 1999. These medicine songs can heal the soul of a humanity gone cold and numb.

lyrics

Bukit Secocol is where the elves (Orang Halus) congregate. They serve as muses by inspiring melodies through dreams. This song pays tribute to the elven source of all Orang Asli music. The a capella invocation segues into a live recording of Hutan Manao (performed at the Shah Alam Stadium on 16 September 1994 to 42,000 and telecast live nationwide)... followed by the tranquil Sungai Makao, one of the most sacred rivers in the Temuan homeland.

Guano Breath Malaysia

Collaborations with others & freestyle choreographic works form an integral part of my archive.

I enjoy being the world's least ambitious musician.
