about

Improvisation around a romantic motif that came to hand in July 1983. This piece inaugurated the studio sessions; and I’m still amazed I managed to do it at 9:30am. Anyway, it ends happily with our lovers riding off into the sunset in a UFO, as the first drops of rain descend on the desert.

Originally presented as the final track of the cassette, 'Nefertiti' was used by Marion D'Cruz, co-founder of Five Arts Centre, as the inspiration & musical accompaniment for a choreographic work premiered at City Hall Auditorium in 1984. I remember there was some bureaucratic unhappiness about her naming her dance after a long-dead Egyptian queen (who was clearly a worshiper of pagan gods), so the piece was renamed '4 X 4.' A year or two later Marion D'Cruz restaged 'Nefertiti' independently at the Experimental Theater, Universiti Malaya. It was my first experience of seeing my music utilized in dance - entirely gratifying!

lyrics

Nefertiti,
Forever Friend & Sacred Bride!
In your sweet embrace I might have gladly died
Had I not felt such complete joy at being alive.
You make me strong, you make me long
For longer days – nay, longer nights –
Ah… touch me once and I feel so light.

about

Guano Breath Malaysia

My output mostly dates back to the 1980s and has been heard by a mere handful. This isn't what I'm into now but at least I'm not too embarrassed about it.

Collaborations with others & freestyle choreographic works form an integral part of my archive.

I enjoy being the world's least ambitious musician.
